April 2020 NA Leader Tier List

April 2020 NA Leader Tier List

Based off my recent poll, people want a tier list so here we go. After a lot of thought, I decided to create two lists: optimal and low rarity. The idea is to cater to two audiences: whales and everyone else. As usual this is off my experience playing in JP along with reference to various JP youtubers.

    First some general comments:

    • A new list will be posted every month, leaders include up to Gintama REM
    • The differences in the leaders are so small it doesn't matter between 1 vs 5
    • I only play single player and all judgement is based off the ability to clear end game content - at least be able to clear 2 of the following dungeons consistently: AA3, A6, Col2.
      • The criteria is around speed, consistency, ease of use and ability to deal with the various dungeon mechanics
    • The game is in such a good position right now that there's a lot more leaders than I listed that can clear all content - no need to quit the game if your favourite leader isn't here
    • Note all the teams are just generic templates - you'll need to make adjustments for specific dungeon mechanics
    • Constructive feedback is welcome. If it's just rude or trolling, I'll just simply block you.

The idea isn't to replace the JP lists but give everyone access to ones in English with explanations to help people understand team characteristics better. Here are the JP lists for reference:

    Meta Overview

The list is completely dominated by transform leaders, monsters that change to another monster upon active usage. Transform leaders are more powerful than their non-transform counterparts but require specialized subs to enable floor1 transforms:

    • Higher LS multipliers
    • Significantly shorter CD actives to minimize stalling

Even though some dungeons have come out to counter transform teams such as floor1 skill delays or skill binds, this meta will stay for a while given JP is still releasing transform supporting monsters such as alternative leader pairings and high SB subs.

Leaders no longer pair with themselves but there are better pairings compared with others - for example Alice/Fasca is an upgrade to Alice/Tifa in almost every way. This also means players can take advantage of an ultra rare leader by using a compatible pair.

    Top Leader - Optimal Build

If you have perfect subs and inherits, who's the best?

    Yugi Fasca (https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/exm8i2/guide_yugi_team_building/)

    https://preview.redd.it/82jdubnedjv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=957aa6630e8aba2b43506948a7ed6572610514a4

    Strength

    • Combination of Yugi high multiplier, poison immunity with Fasca's 7x6 board, excellent RCV and insane utility active
    • Deals damage easily with dark VDP and poison match or match 6 dark poison set and combo
    • Full hazard resist along with counters to almost all counter mechanics: locked orbs, time debuff, unmatchable orbs, RCV debuff
    • Same team can take on any dungeon - No reliance on SAs to transform

    Weakness

    • Extremely restrictive subs, losing any of them would equal losing out on some level of utility
    • Any dungeon that executes based on poison orbs on the board

    Summary

    • Do-it-all team

    Yugi Nelle (https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/exm8i2/guide_yugi_team_building/)

    https://preview.redd.it/ufj491n13jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6cffec0b1f440df61e729f7214e0e90e1228ade3

    Strength

    • Extreme effective HP, high damage/recovery, poison immune by default and crazy 17s+ movement time
    • Huge damage with a single row without needing to combo
    • The combination of Nelle+Yugi's crazy damage along with the high HP allows multiple subs to be "off-type". For example you can swap in HBastet/Hermei to counter A6

    Weakness

    • RCV debuffs can hurt

    Summary

    • The more flexible Yugi team

    Dyer VIdeal

    https://preview.redd.it/owvodrl03jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22a3a888094b9c6837c33569c194ee8b26e3b684

    Strength

    • Easy to use with 12s+ movement time on 6x5 board. Minimum 9 combos every turn with little effort
    • Aten is a damage monster
    • Extremely high utility with damage void, damage absorb, attribute absorb, bind/awoken bind clear, RCV debuff, time debuff along with full hazard resist
    • Guardbreak is particularly good in A6
    • Non-reliant on SAs for SB with abundant haste subs so Col2 is non-issue

    Weakness

    • VDP can still be a problem if you don't run Shelling Ford for dungeons like AA2/3

    Summary

    • Rainbow is back but you better have Shelling Ford!

    DLilia Fasca (https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/fiyxxu/guide_fasca_team_building/)

Special Note: Yokai equip is meant to be Dragon Dagger (4959).

    Strength

    • Pure combo based game play without any gimmicks but provides the same high level of bulk, damage and recovery
    • AutoFUA is much easier to activate compared with Alice
    • AValeria makes this team possible with SBs and damage
    • Tons of orb changes make this team incredibly fast and consistent
    • Same full hazard and utility as other teams on this list

    Weakness

    • Movement time is lower than others

    Summary

    • Underrated pure combo bliss

    Lampeid Fasca (https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/fiyxxu/guide_fasca_team_building/)

    https://preview.redd.it/abmr9xga3jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=427ced1d49a1e37a87f58975c377d75154239b4c

    Strength

    • Easy to activate autoFUA along with good enough damage and insane recovery
    • Deena is MVP with anti spinner active along with giving Lampeid 3 additional orbs each turn
    • More flexible playstyle without needing to rely on rows unlike Yugi/Nelle
    • Easier to build for Col2 due to no-SA SB sticks like Lampeid himself, Elsha and Polowne

    Weakness

    • Team tends to have less HP than others on the list

    Summary

    • Goodbye spinners, hello bunny girl

Top Leaders - Low Rarity Build

If you can only build with non-collab cards as subs which leaders give you the most flexibility but can still give you an edge in the end game?

    Dyer VIdeal

    https://preview.redd.it/n6cav31j3jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f773195538e0466051406926dbe87f886255d6ef

    Strength

    • Very balanced with high HP, damage, recovery with crazy movement time and autoFUA
    • Take advantage of the best pantheon monsters in the game along with MP dragons
    • Even if you don't have your own Shelling Ford, you can borrow a friend's

    Weakness

    • Lack of skyfall can make combo shields harder

    Summary

    • I can't believe I need to look through boxes for potential rainbow teams!

    Alice Fasca (https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/fiyxxu/guide_fasca_team_building/)

    https://preview.redd.it/nm3f32ek3jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa3f579e1ddb3c7a3fb5e77e18ac400977e659b5

    Strength

    • High effective HP, damage and recovery
    • Easiest to build 18CD transform leader with built in 6SB equiv and tape resist
    • Access to many pantheon subs with full resists along with access to a farmable sub Raziel. Can even run off-type subs.
    • Very easily build for full color coverage to take on all-attributes dungeons or add in guardbreak for A6

    Weakness

    • AutoFUA is inconsistent, just play like it doesn't exist
    • Lack of orb changers can make the team feel weak but remember 1 set of light orbs is enough to kill most floors

    Summary

    • Building transform teams is as easy as 1-2-3

    Lampeid Minaka

    https://preview.redd.it/zo4747ol3jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7802a5e44255c55342e9e2b14a247e2abc50e0b9

    Strength

    • Pairing with Minaka reduces the SB requirements to 12 while still providing high RCV
    • Team needs a VDP stick to be effective - luckily most of the top ones are dragons or attackers
    • Built in poison resist makes team building a lot easier along with built in movement time

    Weakness

    • Lack of bulk means you'll need to understand dungeons more deeply and use Minaka's active appropriately
    • Can't take advantage of some of the stronger pantheon subs like PKarin

    Summary

    • Coco is that you?

    Ina Hermei

Yes Haku's board breaks Hermei but you can always inherit over like in this example. The full poison and VDP damage more than make up for it along with the added bind cleric utility

    Strength

    • Very well rounded team with just leaders with AutoFUA, good multipliers as well as debuff counters
    • Dark has access to some of the best pantheon, especially ones with full resists like PHaku and RLumiel
    • Hermei is a direct upgrade to Phenom, note that he doesn't need to transform for his LS. You can run Phenom if your subs all break light
    • 6x5 is particularly effective in A6 where there's fewer combo shields and you do not get debuffed by Nohime

    Weakness

    • Team may play slower due to 6 orb requirement and lack short CD light+dark orb changers

    Summary

    • Ina I still love you

    Velkhana Minaka

    https://preview.redd.it/vjuyxx0n3jv41.jpg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=913b6c2964d6c001da31424c9a95cbbb24073528

    Strength

    • Velkhana provides so much bulk and damage+VDP, he carries the team on his shoulders. Particularly good for players that lack a strong VDP monster.
    • Combination of Minaka, Mut and RCV+ latents ensure you can shield every turn
    • PKarin is an amazing sub - she can combo with Minaka for a bicolor board as well

    Weakness

    • If reliant on Velkhana for damage then team may struggle to one-shot non-devils. Keep that in mind particularly for A6 and AA3.

    Summary

    • Is Velkhana a he or she?

Ways of revitalizing the game for older players?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:22 PM PDT

I made a post a bit ago about making another PAD helper app and I'm narrowing in on the features I want to focus on. My first priority is creating a way of theorycrafting teams, which includes importing your box based on screenshot of it. For me, coming up with non-meta/creative new teams is what keeps the game interesting for me & provides goals to work towards, so I wanted to make something for myself to facilitate that process.

My question to the community is: what other features would help make the game more fun or interesting for you? Here are some of my other thoughts:

    • Some sort of speedrunning/dungeon clear leaderboard where you submit your team+clear time (with attached screenshot from play history). This would encourage crafting optimized teams to run things as fast as possible, which I always think is interesting

    • Automatic team generator: some algorithm/script to auto-generate a team based on your box. What I envision is something that looks through all your cards and looks for leaders/teams that meet specific criteria (e.g. minimum leader multiplier, certain leader skill effects/clauses, HP thresholds, mechanic resistances). This could spark inspiration to use leaders or creative pairings that you might not normally think of - which is becoming more common with the sheer number of cards in the game now compared to 6 years ago

    • A head-to-head battle of sorts where two players wager something (e.g. +297, rare gem, etc) in a competition of their choosing (such as clearing a certain dungeon, ranking dungeon score, dungeon clear time, etc...). This might be hard to implement since I'm not sure how you'd verify who "won"/might make more sense to just be a Discord channel

If you have any other ideas that you think would make the game more fun or interesting (especially for players that have played a long time & basically cleared all content) or would encourage community interaction, let me know!

What non-collab or non-GFE has the strongest LS?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:50 AM PDT

Trying a mini-project for myself, kind of in-between no-REM and REM. I want to build a team that is no-collab and no-GFE (so any no-REM card and pantheon is okay).

    1. What has the strongest mirrored leader skill? I.e. only paired with itself
    2. What has the strongest leader skill allowing pairing with any other leader? As Fasca is very strong right now for a friend pair, I saw Rozuel/Fasca as pretty popular, any other (again can be a pantheon).

I'm looking into Super Revo options and Parvati seems pretty strong with that unconditional tankiness for example, but would like other ideas

Edit: Sorry by strongest LS, I meant most viable for hard/endgame content etc. I think Amen is still king of high multipliers haha but I'm far too chicken to try bringing it to a latrer AA xD
