Yugi is presenting a new transformation meta. Although the same basic anti-dungeon mechanics of team building still exists, transformations need to take into account a new element – skill boosts. This guide is focused on end-game team building, specifically for AA3. This is based off my experience playing JP as well as reference to various JP youtubers. Note that I do not play multiplayer at all so please refer to other's advice.

The guide will only focus on cards available in NA. However, I will include a new of units that are not released in NA yet as of this post. If you have questions, please feel free to ask - I'll help wherever I can. If you're rude I'll simply block you - I'm too old to deal with BS.

    Reasons to Play Him:

    • Hype
    • You absolutely hate Gaslo and want to laugh in his face
    • Nere is the cutest waifu (when she gets released in NA)
    • You haven't cleared AA dungeons because you want EZ mode

    Strengths

    • High HP, void poison effects and high damage for little effort
    • Flexibility to use non-dark subs for utility
    • Don't need to roll one to play Yugi – see alternative leader pairings section
    • Extremely fast clears with access to many low CD orb changers (I average 18min AA3 clears with Nere pair)

    Weaknesses

    • RCV debuffs – while Yugi provides 2x RCV and most of his pairings also give RCV bonuses, many of his subs have poor RCV.
    • Locked orbs – relying on 6/7 dark orbs for damage, you have to use orb changes frequently. None of his key subs have L unlock
    • SBR – many Yugioh collab subs don't have SBR
    • Restrictive subs – you can only use devil subs, if you pair with Nere you're limited to devil+balanced and if you pair with Faska then it's devil+attacker

    Alternative Leader Pairings

Yugi is best paired with another leader, similar to Ina. This is because both the autoFUA and void poison damage part of his LS are redundant. In particular, adding a shield makes Yugi substantially safer and also buffs RCV indirectly. Pairings can be split into three groups: 6x5, 7x6 and 7x6 leaderswap. Double Yugi does have its advantages - mainly +2c actives on a relatively short 10CD CD but I don't find this necessary at least for AA3 - especially if you pair with Genjuro.

    6x5:

    • Genjuro – Adds 4SB and helps with combo shields with +1C. Probably the better leader for most people
    • HMadoo – Extremely tankypair along with essentially 5SB (3 delay). Note that this pair particularly needs a RCV debuff active due to no multiplier from HMadoo
    • Veroah – Still an excellent pair, particularly useful active as RCV debuff removal. Note that dealing with combo shields without skyfall can be a pain
    • Evil Ryu – Budget Genjuro

    7x6:

    Nere

    • the default leader pairing as she provides 7x6 without the restrict requirements from leaderswap
    • I don't recommend more than 1 sub that isn't a devil+balanced as Nere's shield isn't reliable.
    • For AA3 Nere+Yugi is faster clear than then other way around as Yugi's light subattribute can kill off attribute absorb floors like Odin (do 1 dark row + light VDP)

    Faska

    • the default pair for Col2 if you have access to 3 Bakura or more (2 sub, 1 equip) as you can take advantage of his crazy damage and have access to Faska's active to deal with annoying debuffs
    • Note the playstyle changes as you no longer can simply match 6/7 to do damage. Instead you need to do 8 combos each turn.
    • The pair is safer than Nere as you can reliably shield every turn

    7x6 leaderswap:

I generally believe there's not much difference between leaderswap and Nere other than the difference in inherit/sub slots. Nere may have more effective HP but you don't need more than you need.

    • Tao Ren – Provides L unlock, RCV and a shield. The 1 additional dark orbs a turn also makes for faster runs
    • HBastet – RCV/time debuff active is extremely useful on top of a shield LS
    • Bakura - Focus on poison damage
    • HMadoo/Genjuro/etc – Very very specialized builds that require an extremely large amount of SB/haste/delays but provide even more bulk/damage than above
    • Cardinal/HBastet – very specific build for exp bonus, particularly useful for people above rank 930

    AA3 Video

https://youtu.be/UECz_GzFu0c - All tengu team /w Nere- just demonstrates that you don't need "perfect" subs as long as you can transform

https://youtu.be/RmQ2SUQZY8M - Tao Ren leaderswap example

https://youtu.be/AC3b7aiwWAM - Only 1 dragon sub, no other Yugi collab subs. HMadoo pair

    https://youtu.be/s4E_19sT7Sg - Cardinal leaderswap (6M+ rank EXP!)

    https://youtu.be/K-vyuVPiG1o - Genjuro 6x5

https://youtu.be/6bhm9rS2QaA - Double Bakura, double Yugi pairing

https://youtu.be/y82AkIRk1iw - Bakura leaderswap with Orphen for 7x6

    Col2 Video

    https://youtu.be/qHlkpRWegLQ - Faska+Bakura power

https://youtu.be/AbavKYOLR_c - Slight variation of Faska/Bakura teams - note HBastet is "off type"

    https://youtu.be/i_mEVwuE32s - 3 Bakura (2 sub) variant

    https://youtu.be/IHvReoc163M - 2 Bakura (1 sub with equip) - Yojiro is replaceable

    Playstyle Notes

Yugi plays very much like a blob leader – either do row or VDP. You can play fast if you know the dungeon and use your orb changers regularly or you can take it slow stall on most floors – just don't match 6 dark. The exception is Faska team where you need to 8 combo – however in this case you don't need to row.

    Team Building

Yugi team building is more flexibility than people believe but you only really need to have a couple high SB subs like Fortress Dragon (dragon) or Dark Magician (DM) to take advantage. There are a number of key aspects to Yugi team building beyond the usual resists/Fujin/etc:

    • Having 20SB or SB equivalent to transform turn 1
    • 1 damage sub or sufficient rows (to clear trash floors, as Yugi+leader pair can dish VDP damage)
    • Full SBR
    • Access to L unlock

Note that Yugi is so OP that subs don't really matter as long as you can meet the above requirements. You can also use off color subs as well. So please don't ask for a perfect team as there isn't one – pick subs that fit the dungeon/your person preference.

    SB subs:

    • Dark Magician (DM) – Great as a sub (7SB) or equip (4SB)
    • Fortress Dragon (Dragon) – 6SB (including 3 turn haste), the default sub
    • DAthena – DATH is back baby! 6 SB with delay
    • HMadoo – 5SB (with 3 turn delay)
    • Lajoa – 4SB and rows with a kill board active
    • Evo Yugi – 4SB and rows and awoken bind clear
    • Base Aoi Shikigami – 4SB and a very useful full HP recovery active (good if you don't have a RCV debuff)
    • Genjuro – 4SB, full jammer resist
    • Nergi – 4SB, also adds damage via enhanced orbs
    • RLumiel – 4SB, also gives full blind resist (hidden gem)
    • RLuci Archangel – 4SB and rows!
    • DMG – Still 4SB with rows and that great active
    • Diaochan – 4SB, low CD, awoken bind clear and time debuff removal
    • Kurama – 4SB, remove unmatchable orbs, built in cloud resist
    • Tengu – 4SB, low CD for inherit

    Damage subs:

    • Hiei – dark's default damage sub
    • Evo Yugi – adds a tons of rows and provides blind resist plus he provides 4 SB
    • Lord Drakkon – you can even take finger SA for those with PSI
    • Vajra – Budget triple 7c but still very effective with 3SB as well
    • Hera Luna – 3SB damage stick – just keep in mind you need your HP up
    • Sephiroth – 3SB (2 turn haste), does excellent damage to most spawns with killers
    • Bakura – yes he can hit damage cap but you don't really need it except in Col2. I suggest you only run it in 7x6 unless you have access to 3 (2 sub, 1 equip). Bakura's skyfall doesn't always provide 3 poison orbs in 6x5 even if you clear the board every turn.

    Special Mentions

    • Base Ruo – 3SB plus adds a semi-permanent shield and 2 SBR
    • SAnubis – 3SB, 2s additional movement time
    • Veroah – All in 1 utility with 2SB: RCV debuff, cloud/tape res, row damage
    • Eris – interesting sub to boost row damage along with awoken bind clear
    • MBison – 3 SB equiv plus adds 4 rows
    • Insomni – way to get cloud resist along with 3 blind on a relatively short CD
    • MAGremory – Bind cleric with unlock, 2SB and orb changer
    • Myne – another way to add cloud resist she also has 2 SBR! Also a great base for DM
    • Joker – one of the few devil bind clerics
    • Zebun – double SBR, L-unlock
    • Legato – double SBR and some resists
    • HRuel – double SBR, cloud resist and 2SB
    • HAlraune - one of the best bind clear as it also has haste along with 3 SB (thanks u/IAmTheRoommate)
    • RHades - lots of utlity with 2 SB including clear unmatchable orb AND time debuff AND L unlock awakening (thanks u/IAmTheRoommate)
    • Lord Zedd - another bind cleric (thanks u/Gethixit)
    • NY Baal – locking orbs is particularly useful for Col2. Also low CD so you can inherit a skill to use earlier in the dungeon like DM
    • Horus – post buff, he's amazing with 3 SB, unlock orb and removes time debuff
    • Vaskra - 2 SBR, unlocks orbs and most importantly has RCV debuff active (thanks u/Muspel)

    Latents

Yugi is usually your only Fujin active so you'll need to protect it from skill delay against Tamadras and MAthena. The general rule of thumb is 4SDR+devil/machine killer or 6 SDR. Your leader pair can sport killers as usual, particularly for VDP ones like Genjuro/HMadoo/Nere. All your subs should have SDRs except your damage dealer.

    Equips

Beyond the usual resist equips, Yugi also needs SB and SBR. I'm not going to list every equip but highlight ones that work particularly well.

    • DM – 4SB including delay
    • Lina – one of the top equips for Yugi with 3SB (2 turn haste), tape resist as well as RCV debuff. I suggest you put it onto 1 dragon – just make sure you pop this dragon's haste first so you get a 3 turn headstart on getting the skill up again
    • Kaiba – SB and adds RCV
    • Yuuki – SB and RCV bonus – just keep in mind the skill as the CD is rather low (8CD)
    • Fagan – SB and cloud resist
    • Shiki – SB and L-unlock – personal favourite as L-unlock is so useful
    • Nico Bolas – unbindable equip with 3 SB (2 turn haste and a full turn damage null), amazing on Diaochan
    • Rikku – "free" SBR and SB and a very good skill delay protection, what's not to like
    • Yugi – tape resist, SBR and adds a ton of rows
    • Kuriboh – double SBR and L unlock (thanks u/R360 for the update)
    • Marik – cloud resist and SBR
    • Orphen – 99 turn skyfall and he has is the shield to help stall for Yugi – quasi SB
    • Eris Apple – great equip on DMG for damage and awoken bind clear
    • Chuan – add damage via rows – particularly good for Diaochan/Genjuro
    • Mystic elf – easy way to counter unmatchable orb, its also light attribute so great equip on dragon/DMG

After returning from a short break...

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:46 PM PST

I finally made it to 2000 days!

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:35 PM PST

Dont ever come near my Gandora army

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:46 PM PST

Today is the last day for Sonia Tamadra Descended. Don’t forget about the last day token exchange for Super Snow Globes and latents

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:37 AM PST

Don't forget the one-time killer latent trades if you have not gotten them already.

Also if you want lil' snow globes and SDR latents this is the best time to farm them since Yu-Gi-Oh! token exchange is a 5:1 exchange and Sonia Tamadra is only 3:1 exchange.

    I love using Yugi

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 07:15 AM PST

Isn't it wild to think that Yugi gets even better with Nere?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:58 AM PST

It's like we just got a really good demo of a game, but the best is yet to come. Think about all the powercreep that is Yugi, but with a bigger board, awesome short cool down active, and a bonus 2 extra movement time. Super Reincarnated Anubis will be fun with his 10c.

Whoever gets a good Nere is going to get friend invites like crazy (and my reserved BF slot).

Hey everyone! Giving my BF away again.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:27 PM PST

Hey everyone, I've decided to give away my BF again since I don't want to see it rotting away on my account. If you're in the market for outdated leads, light row farming leads, NY Artemis and Ed you're in luck.

To enter the giveaway just post how many yugi spam threads you think will be posted between now and next Friday at 12 AM CST. I'll count up the actual amount at Friday midnight (because I have nothing better to do Friday evenings) and quote the lucky winner who guesses the closest amount rounded up. Good luck!

With V. Andromeda obtainable from the Valentines orb skin bundle...

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:17 AM PST

What are some leads that people are using or will try using with her?

I'm really excited for V. Andromeda. When the Valentines REM comes to NA.

4x ATK and 2x HP for healer and god type; 4x ATK when matching 6+ connected water orbs; 50,000 true damage FUA when matching 6 or more water orbs

IMO it looks like she would be good as a lead with:

    water/dark Kaiba

    Zeo Megazord (NA)

    Zordon (NA)

Amenominakanushi (4737 could possibly be a good lead with V. Andromeda)

    Toyotomi Hideyoshi (4852)

Possible subs that are healer & god types:

    Mut

    Akine

    Rimururu

    Beach I&I

    Kyori

    2nd evo Highren

    Awoken Aife

    Reincarnated Gan Ning

    Amenominakanushi (probably 4736 for VDP)

    Nene (3692 & 4449)

Holy Girl Iron Maiden Jeanne (5247)

    Awoken Lugh

    Uesugi Kenshin

    Servant Lancer

    Servant Rider

    Blue Ranger (NA)

Mystic Elf (great assist evo as well)

    Assists:

Beach Yog (probably better as an assist)

    Awoken Nene

There are too many options to list. Most of these are ones that I have or would like to have.

Does anyone know what GFE's can be traded for Nere?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:52 PM PST

Hey all, Just came back after a few years and a lot has changed. I'm looking forward to nere and wanted to know if i had what it takes to trade for her. I rolled a bunch in the past two godfests since coming back and picked up a decent amount of GFE's so I'm hoping i can trade as a last resort. Tried finding the list on my own but couldn't.

    Thanks!

Bring a tape resist equip. Wasn’t that bad, was worried

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:59 AM PST

[Discuss] I've tried several Yugi teams in AA3. For a 6x5 all around persistent success, this build has been best, and is easier to put together than some.

For those looking to bring their Yugi team to all attack required dungeons don't overlook Vajrabhairava. 3 SB, SBR, Tape resist, and an active that goes great on the team.
